Week 1 — Elements 1–4
Receive and relay messages
Why this element matters
In a processing plant, a message may be about a production change, a maintenance request, a delivery, a hazard, a quality issue or a supervisor’s instruction. If the message is misunderstood, not recorded, or passed to the wrong person, the result can be unsafe work, product loss, rework or delays.
This element covers a simple but critical routine: receive the message, confirm what it means, record it accurately, then relay it to the correct person or section within the required time. You will use everyday communication sources and equipment, including face-to-face conversations, radios, phones, emails, logbooks, forms and workplace signs or displays.
